Chang'e and Houyi the Archer
The story of Chang'e and Houyi is a tale of love, bravery, and devotion

Chapter :

A long, long time ago in China, there lived a kind and beautiful woman named Chang'e. Her husband, Houyi, was an amazing archer, known far and wide for his incredible skill with a bow and arrow.

At that time, there were ten suns in the sky, making the Earth scorching hot and almost impossible to live on. Plants were withering, rivers were drying up, and people were suffering. The Emperor of Heaven called upon Houyi to save the Earth from the unbearable heat.

Houyi took his mighty bow and arrows and aimed at the skies. One by one, he shot down nine of the ten suns, leaving only one to shine gently upon the Earth. Thanks to Houyi, the Earth was saved, and everyone praised him as a hero.

As a reward, the Queen Mother of the West gave Houyi a special elixir. This magical potion could make someone live forever. But there was only enough for one person. Houyi loved Chang'e dearly and didn’t want to live forever without her, so he gave the elixir to her for safekeeping.

One day, while Houyi was away, a wicked man named Pang Meng tried to steal the elixir. Brave and quick-thinking, Chang'e drank the elixir to keep it out of Pang Meng’s hands. As soon as she did, she started to float up into the sky and flew all the way to the moon, where she became the Moon Goddess.

When Houyi came home and found out what had happened, he was heartbroken. He missed Chang'e so much that he looked up at the moon every night, hoping to see her. One night, he noticed that the moon was extra bright, and he could see a shadow that looked just like Chang'e. Houyi placed all of Chang'e's favorite fruits and cakes on a table to show her that he was thinking of her.

The Moon Mother was touched by their love and decided to let Chang'e and Houyi meet once a year on the full moon of the eighth lunar month. This special day became the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Now, every year during the Mid-Autumn Festival, families gather to look at the full moon, eat delicious mooncakes, and celebrate the love story of Chang'e and Houyi. It's a time for everyone to remember how love can conquer all, even across the vastness of the sky.
