Chapter :
Tenali Rama, a beloved figure in Indian history, served as a witty poet in the court of King Krishnadevaraya during the 16th century. Known for his sharp intellect and humorous tales, he entertained and astounded the courtiers with his clever responses. One day, King Krishnadevaraya decided to jest with Tenali Rama. Before the entire court, he proclaimed, "Last night, I had the most peculiar dream. As I walked with Tenali Rama, we encountered two pits. One was filled with honey, and the other with a cesspool. I happily dove into the honey pit, while Tenali Rama unfortunately fell into the cesspool!"
The courtiers chuckled, amused by the king's jest and envious of Tenali Rama's supposed misfortune. They laughed and clapped, thoroughly entertained by the king's humor.
The following day, Tenali Rama arrived at court with a thoughtful expression. "Your Majesty," he began, "I too had a vivid dream last night. In my dream, you managed to escape the honey pit unscathed, while I struggled tremendously to climb out of the cesspool. Eventually, I succeeded in reaching solid ground."
The court listened intently, curious about Tenali Rama's response.
"But in our sorry states," Tenali Rama continued, "we couldn't return home. So, we devised a clever plan. I offered to lick the honey off your body, and you reciprocated by cleaning the muck from mine."
The court fell silent, stunned by Tenali Rama's unexpected twist. Even King Krishnadevaraya couldn't help but be impressed by Tenali Rama's quick wit and creativity.
From that day on, Tenali Rama's reputation for wit and intelligence grew even stronger, making him a beloved character in Indian folklore and history.
